  • It was originally called International Working Women’s Day. The festival originally intended to recognize working women for their economic, political and social achievements. Therefore, the name stressed especially on the word “working” to show respect to them.
  • 1975 was designated as the International Women’s Year. The United Nations officially supported the International Women’s Day starting from this year.

  • There is actually an International Mens Day November 19, but maybe I think they need the IWD to help them with publicity, which is why we don’t really know about it !
