” It was a perfect way for me to supplement my income as a newly single mum of 3, and there was also the added bonus of connecting with the some inspirational and confident women all over the world. The nights were after all pretty lonely in my new found single status.”
ILOVE OLIVE, isn’t my first experience at blogging. Five years ago I went through a relationship break up and as a result, I found myself a part-time job working as a Social Media Marketer. Social Media Marketing, in 2013, was a relatively new concept, especially in New Zealand. The job involved contacting bloggers around the world and asking them to review a Premium NZ Product in exchange for goods. It was a perfect way for me to supplement my income as a newly single mum of 3, and there was also the added bonus of connecting with the most inspirational and confident women all over the world. The nights were after all pretty lonely and the future a little daunting.
It was through this experience, that I discovered a wonderful community of Bloggers like https://www.notdressedaslamb.com/ whom I still follow, and so, I decided to try my hand at being a 40+ Fashion Blogger. I mean how hard could it be? Wake up, get kids ready for school, get dressed, do makeup, take fabulous pictures, drive to school. Follow up by writing witty posts, gain masses of followers, and retire early. Who was I kidding?
Firstly, our mornings were profoundly calamitous, and never ever on schedule. This resulted in some very harassed looking 40+ fashion shoots with most of the photos having animals and children photobombing me. I also had the challenge of having absolutely no money not even for op shopping so a fashion blog without a fashion is just a blog, and there is only so much witty and funny I can do in one week.
Fast forward to 2018 and I meet Pistol my new leading man. Caught up in a whirlwind of romance and a few too many Gins one night I decide, that it was perfect time to start up a new blog called Pistol and Olive (catchy name right?). Armed with newfound skills in digital marketing, the blog would share our adventures, and hopefully, travels at a later stage. Pistol planned to have his own DIY feature (called D.I.M), and I would try a second attempt at 50+ Fashion Blogging.
This is where I insert my first “for fox sake”!! It’s also where I firmly re-iterate it is very, very important to research the name of your blog.
Upon my very first google search, I discovered that Tommy Pistol and Olive Glass happened to be two rather explicit Porn Stars in the US. However what was really funny, was that we had actually joked about it in our Gin Laden brainstorming session, that Pistol and Olive actually did sound a little X-rated 🙂 No photos here I’m afraid!!
